I've always been drawn to crystals and stones. I can remember when I was 5 or 6 and digging in the dirt at the babysitter's looking for fool's gold and quartz. I used to beg my mom to let me get new stones every time we were in a museum or specialty shop, and I carried around a little plastic box with my entire collection all of 3rd and 4th grade. Of course I didn't know what any of the meanings of those stones I was obsessed with meant, just that I loved them and they made me happy. I had quartz, rose quartz, smokey quartz, amethyst, a small piece of jade, all kinds of stones and crystals. I was quite proud of that collection. Now that I'm an adult and can actually understand why these 'rocks' are so popular, I have a whole new love for them.

I keep an amethyst on my desk in my home office and while it has many controversial health benefits, I use it mostly to help balance my anxiety help stimulate my creativity. Additional benefits thought to come from amethyst include:

Eliminate impatience
Enhance intuition
Protection from negative energies
Negative ion emission

I know all of this can sound crazy, but people all over the world have literally been using stones and crystals for hundreds and hundreds of years. Now that we understand negative ions and their benefits, it sure doesn't hurt to test those ancient theories out.
