Tips For Staying Focused and Motivated

May 29, 2018

Sometimes it can be hard to keep going after a goal or vision that you had originally set for yourself, especially if you aren't growing  or seeing the changes you thought you would see. Whether it be a work plan, fitness goal, pretty much anything you are striving for, here are my tips to keep going:

*Create a vision board. I did this at the beginning of the year and man has it helped my focus! I put it on a door in my office so that I look at it several times a day and it really helps with keeping my vision in place.

*Do something each day that brings you joy. This may sound silly, but a few moments of joy can change your mood and your attitude. For example, I recently switched from K-Cups and a Keurig to fresh coffee beans, grinding them, and an old fashioned coffee maker (by old fasioned I mean the manual kind with a coffee pot ha) and it makes me so happy to make my coffee in the mornings. It's a completely small task but it's a little task of love...especially when I smell the coffee brewing

*Take time to meditate. I think often times when people think of meditation, they picture highly spiritual people humming to themselves on a mat. Not so! Meditation is simply thinking deeply or refocusing your mind and I like to do this each morning when I drink my coffee to control the spirit of my day. It may only be a few minutes, but just focusing on what you have to do for the day or seeing yourself where you need to be can be more beneficial than some may think.

*Set small goals in addition to larger ones. Reaching little milestones along the way will give you a little boost and keep your drive up.

*Reward yourself. I'm talking realistic here. I don't think we deserve a vacation for losing five pounds, lol, but small rewards definitely help!

*Be easy on yourself. If you backslide on a fitness goal or mess up at work a few days, that doesn't mean your goal is over! We are humans and error is a part of life. Just accept it as a learning experience and move on.

*Be thankful. To me, being grateful for small things makes my attitude more positive and life is just easier when you are positive. Make it a habit to intentionally be thankful for a few things a day (birds chirping, pretty clouds, a kind gesture from a stranger) and watch how it grows from there.

Spring Perfume

May 11, 2018

Spring is in full bloom and so is my garden! I can't believe how well my peonies (pictured!) and roses are doing...not going to lie, I'm impressed haha. I like to switch up my smells for each season- candles and perfumes :) For fall and winter I like warmer, foodsie smells (think vanilla, rum scents). Then for spring I adore florals, and summer I love beachy fragrances. Givenchy Live Irresistible Blossom Crush is the ultimate spring fragrance. It smells of rose, berries, and peonies. It's a sweet scent but the hint of cocoa bean helps to tone it down. Obsessed.

Beachy Waves & Headband Hair Tutorial

May 7, 2018

Ok, so I never really felt comfortable with hair tutorials because I've always felt my hair was super messy (hence the blog name) and unpolished, but over the years I have learned to embrace my half super curly half beach waved head and pick my hairstyles based on the least amount of work involved...just keepin it real.

PS: This style does a lot better with dirty hair, but for tutorial purposes I started with just washed

Normally I would scrunch my hair in this step and just do touch ups with the curling wand, but since most people don't have curly hair I blow dried my hair straight to 'start from scratch' so to speak haha. For this I've used one pump of Aveda Smooth Infusion (c/o) throughout my hair before drying & I've sprayed the top portion (root area) with Biolage Volumebloom. I love this T3 hair dryer (c/o) because it dries my hair at lightning speed and never makes it frizz!

Next I section my hair by layers, so there's a top layer and a bottom layer. I just pin it in a little bun with a couple bobby pins to keep the top layer out of the way while I curl the bottom layer. I use this T3 wand with the 1" barrel (c/o) for loose waves. Always curl away from your face for more flattering look. Also, wands are a bit different from curling irons. You want the wand to be upside down and just wrap your section of hair around the barrel, ending at the bottom of the barrel (which is actually the top since it is upside down).

After I curl the bottom I start on the top layer and do the same thing, sectioning my hair into 1-1.5" pieces and curling away from my face.

Next I add texture. I use Aveda's Texture Tonic because it adds texture but doesn't dry my hair out. They sent me a bottle to try in a PR package last year and I have since bought TWO bottles, I love it that much.

((Crazy eyes because taking photos of yourself while scrunching your hair is hard.))

Now it's time to decorate your just fixed hair :)

I have so many of these headbands. I've had this one for about 5 years, it's from Ulta. I've also found some great velvet ones on eBay and have even seen super cute ones at Walmart. I don't recommend paying too much for these because they are out there for cheap!

You may need to tease your roots to get the 'poofy' effect, sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. This time it was just already big...my hair just depends on how much product I used and it also has a lot to do with the weather. I am forever at the mercy of the humidity haha. As you can see, this look is super easy (as all of my hair styles are) and looks effortless!

Moody Beach Day

This weekend I was fortunate enough to have a family session at the beach during sunset, so me and my sister took off early and made a day of it. We ate at our favorite local place(s) and got our tan on...in between clouds anyway. The family I photographed is the sweetest most faithful family I have ever met and their unwavering faith is such an inspiration. I'll touch more on that in the next few weeks <3

Polka dot dress | Rattan bag & love this one  | Similar hat

If I had to describe my style, I would have to say it's somewhere between a bohemian queen and french countryside dweller. I love the edginess and patterns/textures that come along with boho style, and I also love the lady-like finishes of classic pieces like this polka dot dress. That's the thing about style...you can be anyyyone you wanna be 💓

PS: I actually found this hat in an ice cream shop's gift shop in Southport, NC! How random is that??
